Orillia apartment fire sends woman to hospital

(UPDATE – March 25th, 2024)

The occupant, a 67-year-old women was rushed to Orillia’s Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) after she fled her “fully engulfed” fourth-floor apartment unit, Sunday.

“She was pronounced deceased at OMSH,” said Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface.

Boniface said the woman was located in the hallway with “significant burns”. 

At this point, the woman’s identity is not being released.

The investigation is ongoing as the Fire Marshal and OPP Crime Unit was on scene Monday.

OPP MEDIA RELEASE: ORILLIA OPP INVESTIGATING FIRE

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to an address on Coldwater Rd. in the City of Orillia for a fire on the 4th floor of an apartment building.

One occupant was believed to be in the residence at the time of the fire.

A 67 year old female would be transported to a local Hospital with serious injuries.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is assisting with the investigation.

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.

The investigation is in its early stages.

An update of the investigation will be released when more information becomes available.

BREAKING: One person has been seriously injured in an apartment fire on Coldwater Rd. in Orillia on Sunday night.

“When we arrived on scene, the apartment was fully involved,” said Chris Ferry, the Orillia Fire Department’s deputy fire chief.

The fire was extinguished quickly but left significant smoke and water damage in the building, which resulted in tenants not being allowed back in for the night.

North Simcoe Victim Services has been called in to assist the displaced tenants.
