OPP MEDIA RELEASE: ONE INDIVIDUAL ARRESTED AFTER POTENTIAL THREAT REPORTED AT LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a potential threat at a high school in Orillia.

On February 16, 2024, at approximately 11:27 a.m., the administration at the school alerted police after receiving a threat from an anonymous phone number.

Members of the Orillia Detachment and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) attended the high school and took appropriate measures given the nature of the threat to ensure the safety of the students and staff.

Police and administrative staff worked together to address the threat. Staff and students inside the school were relocated to a central area and students outside the building were asked to remain there.

A search of the school was conducted. Police determined there was no threat, then allowed staff and students back in the school.

The investigation revealed the identity and location of a suspect who allegedly made the threat. The suspect was arrested without incident and brought into police custody.

A 54 year-old female from Orillia has been charged with: Uttering threats, and Public Mischief.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia a later date in March 2024.

BREAKING: Orillia Secondary School in Orillia, Ontario is currently under lockdown after an anonymous threat was received at the school shortly after 11:00am Friday morning.

Police are on scene conducting a sweep of the school to ensure no objects of interest are found.

According to a student who was on her lunch break and through texting with a friend, staff and students who were inside the school when the threat was received were moved to the library and the cafeteria, while staff and students who were outside the school on lunch were moved to a secure area while police investigated the threat.
