ORILLIA, ONTARIO – Motorists in the area of Woodland Drive had an interesting commute Thursday afternoon as Bluffs Creek, a usually small creek in the area flooded the area and spilled over the road as a result of the significant rainfall the area has seen.
The road, which is a main route into Four Mile Point and Moons Beach area has been reduced in speed through the flooded area.
Officials who were onsite earlier are encouraging motorists in the area to take Woodland Dr. down to Line 15 south as an alternate route to help reduce traffic flow over the bridge after noticing several washed-out areas of the bridge as a result of the fast-moving water.
According to Environment Canada, general rainfall amounts of 40 to 100 mm have been observed since Wednesday morning in the area, causing increased risk of rivers flooding and potential washouts.
The road remains open with reduced speed.
