Northern lights | may 10 & may 11, 2024 | Coldwater, Ontario
On May 9, 2024, at 1:41 p.m., multiple large solar flares erupted from the sun and traveled towards earth. Over the course of a 24-hour period, those solar flares caused a geomagnetic storm that treated Canada and the whole earth to a spectacular Northern Lights show. This severe geomagnetic storm hit a “G5 geomagnetic storm” which is the highest and more severe storm on the chart. The last time we saw a storm this severe was October 2003.
Below is an album of Northern Lights photos from this past G5 geomagnetic storm, shot overnight between the hours of 9pm on May 10 and 5am on May 11, 2024.
